The ODTUG Brigade rolled into New Orleans a day before Kaleidoscope 2008 and left its mark on one of the schools in the Recovery School District.

Live Oak Elementary School in New Orleans was closed for nearly a decade before Katrina made landfall in 2005. Miraculously, the abandoned, dilapidated, and decaying building was one of about seventeen schools that was not washed away in the flood waters. The school was immediately reopened after Katrina.

The ODTUG Brigade scrubbed, cleaned, painted, and installed vinyl artworks donated to the RSD by Portraits of Hope. “Volunteer groups have been able to paint the hallways and stairwells on weekends during the school year,” says Peloquin, “but this was the first time I have been able to get a volunteer group into the classrooms. This building needs a lot of love.”

Thank you for taking part in this service project. ODTUG is proud to give back to New Orleans!
